One of the most important things you do every day is build your
character. Building a good character is not always an easy job and
involves much more than just being nice to other people. It's about
demonstrating respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness
and honesty in everything you do in your life. It is also about making
good decisions and controlling or avoiding bad behavior.

These activities will help you think about how to become an even better person. They will also remind you that changing yourself is not always an easy task!

Activity 1: You Are One of a Kind! ... and so is everyone else!

You are a special and unique person. You are not like anyone else in the whole world. You might be a gifted musician or play a sport very well. You may be an excellent student or a very good friend. Do people appreciate you for your special gifts and abilities? Do they treat you with respect? How do you react to people that are different than you?

Share with one another a time when someone made fun of you for being different. Share a time when someone really treated you with respect. What are some important lessons we should learn about how to treat other people whether they are like us or different from us?

  Activity 2: My Role Model

Who is your role model? Who is it that you look up to and want to be like? Why is that person someone you admire? Are they caring, fair, or honest? Why do you want to be like them?

Share with one another something about a person that you really admire and be sure to tell each other why.

Activity 3: Consequences Go Both Ways!

Every action has a reaction -- that is a scientific fact!

This means that everything that you do has a consequence. Some are positive and others are not. Sometimes we act before thinking about what the consequences of our actions might be.

Can you think of some situations in which you acted before you thought about the consequences? What happened? Share with one another an important lesson you learned about your actions and their consequences.
