Meade, and Margaret Honey, this September, 1998 CCT report synthesizes
the lessons learned from a three-year telementoring project. Based
on research from the implementation phases of the project, the writers
examine the key features of the program design and the critical
issues that emerged as they worked with teachers, students, and
mentors. (Available for downloading as a PDF.)

Teacher
Survey Results from the International Telementor Program.
Teachers reported
both positive and negative experiences: They gained in
technological proficiency and reported that students improved as
learners; on the
other hand, technological infrastructure within schools and lack
of support from school administrators hindered the experiences of
some teachers.

Mentoring:
A Promising Strategy for Youth Development, Research Brief
from Child Trends.
This February,
2002 report highlights the findings of studies on 10 youth mentoring
programs. The research synthesis shows that "mentoring programs
can be effective tools for enhancing the positive development of
youth," but some important "cautionary notes" are raised. For example,
"mentoring relationships of short duration may do more harm than
good," and "in most programs, mentoring was augmented with other
services, such as academic support."
