Mentoring: A Promising Strategy for Youth Development, Research Brief

This February, 2002 report highlights the findings of studies on 10 youth mentoring programs. The research synthesis shows that "mentoring programs can be effective tools for enhancing the positive development of youth," but some important "cautionary notes" are raised. For example, "mentoring relationships of short duration may do more harm than good," and "in most programs, mentoring was augmented with other services, such as academic support."
